The Foals played last Monday (6.14.08) at Neumos. They had a secret/special guest who ended up being Wolf Parade. I was really only going for Wolf Parade who i’ve yet to see. That day i checked out The Foals online, listened to a few songs but wasn’t immediately stoked on their sound. It usually takes a few listens for me to dig on most stuff though.
Hardstab went to the Sub Pop 20th show at Marymoor the previous weekend and mentioned that The Foals were awesome live. The lead singer of the Foals was going ape shit breaking stuff on stage. Sounded like it was gonna be a great show.
The Foals went on around 10 and the lead singer def showed some onry rockstar traits right off the bat. Rad. After about the third song Hardstab yelled out “break your mic!”. Or something like that. Dude replied “I’ll break something, where you at”. Whoa! Sweet…Hardstab was taunting the rockstar. The next song, dude jumped off the stage with guitar and started moving through the crowd towards Hardstab. Uh oh. Nothing exciting panned out but it was a bit intimidating to see dude moving toward us after a half-assed threat.
Wolf Parade was awesome. Sound was good, crowd was stoked, Band was rocking. Stoked i finally got to see them at a small venue before they reach stadium status. Next time The Foals come to town go see them.
Here’s a vid i took from the show of “Wolf Parade - You are a Runner and I am my Father’s Son”

This might be a bit premature but the Cap Hill Block Party this year will fall on July 25th & 26th - Fri/Satm. Thats over a couple months away but i bet it sells out. The last few years have seen capacity (maybe over) crowds due to the Block Partys increase in popularity. The headlining bands seem to be on the cusp of blowing up too, so that probably adds to the crowds.
If the crowds aren’t your thing, post up in the beer garden like these drunks:

A few of the bands that will be at the show that im pumped to see are Les Savvy Fav, Vampire Weekend, The Hold Steady, Akimbo, Chromeo and Devotcka (who i missed recently). There’s a ton more bands…pretty much a band overload. They end up having the shows inside Nuemos, The Comet, King Cobra and the outside mainstage. Check out the full line up and details at http://www.thestranger.com/blockparty

The tickets for this show run $18 bucks each day or $34 for both days. Super cheap for the amazing music that will be there. You can get tickets Tickets at Moe Bar, Rudy’s Barber Shops, QFC or ticketswest.com if you want to pay a huge service charge.

July 12th Helio Sequence, Iron and Wine, Low, Mudhoney, Pissed jeans, Seaweed
July 13th Beachwood Sparks, Comets on Fire, Grand Archives, Green River, Kinski, Red Red Meat, Wolf Parade also added the Vaselines ERICS TRIP and possible The Shins.
Just got my two day pass for 50 bucks. Go to Sub Pop . com
Pretty much an unreal lineup in my opinion. Erics trip, Green River and Red Red Meat have all been defunct for many many years. Also saw the Seaweed reunion in there hometown of Tacoma for two shows in December and they still got it. This show will be super good. Also a fair price for a festival these days. Two day ticket was the same price as the Nick Cave and the Badseeds ticket I just got. Damn. Go out and get yourself some. Posse up!

This is one of the best live shows I have ever seen. Scary sounding circus music from a seven piece band all dressed up . The music is super good and the performance is great too. All for TEN bucks at NEUMOS. I don’t think this is thier full circus performance (acrobats , tightropers, fire blower etc.) just the band, which is the only thing i have seen. They are all dressed up like clowns, butchers and circus conductors. Also the 15 year old that sings Johnny Cash perfect is opening. definetely worth the ten bucks. check it.

THE LIGHTS AND THE MOONDOGGIESAt the Dubliner in Freemont. The Lights are really good. 3 piece stripped down rock. Probably seen them three times and would go again. Didn’t know the Dubliner had shows though? Kinda Fratty. The Lights will take care of them. The Moondoggies: actually pretty good as well. More of an alt country style, kind of like Neil Youngish with more going on. Worth seeing but what a stupid name for a band. Pretty much an instant turn off. Strange that it matters but it does. Maybe it is code for something really cool. Maybe they purposely chose a really stupid name? Just don’t get it. I understand the reason for candy coating a piece of shit but shit coating a piece of candy with a crappy name just doesn’t make sense. Oh well.
FREE SHOW !!!!
Rare these days with the rising cost of food, fuel and Canadian lift tickets. A good one too. Whalebones were good. I think they opened for Band of Horses awhile back… Don’t remember much but they were ok. The FERAL CHILDREN. Saw them @ the High Dive for free and they were super good. If anything it will be entertaining. A guy that looks like TOM GREEN singing and playing drums while standing up. Great show for the price. Check it Cap Hillers. Or, if you want to spend some money go see Cat Power or The Eels.

Not for everyone. Thats for sure. Go rent the dvd THE DEVIL AND DANIEL JOHNSTON, they even have it at block buster. A good documentary on a crazy wierdo if nothing else. It did well at some film festivals. check this
It will be interesting for sure. I kind of doubt that he can make it through a hole set but we’ll see. Here is probably more of what to expect.
Also if you like documentaries on weirdos : Look up ROKY ERIKSON title Your Gonna Miss Me Super good. I give this one a 6/6 and maybe an extra 6 for a special DIABLO RATING.
This guy rips. And he played Bumbershoot this year. Listen to the lyrics. Sometimes these rockers really are crazy.
