So my friend JR did this drop that another friend (Tyler Wagner) spotted at Alpental.

JR is crazy. I wouldn’t even think of dropping this.

WTF!!! Why would you try to do this??!! Look how close JR lands to the edge of the waterfall of death hole kill. But then, STOMP.

Check out pic #1 just for all it’s gnarliness, then the sequence in pic #2. Pic #3 a sic indy.

JR Cole Waterfall Jump #1JR Cole waterfall drop #2JR Cole waterfall drop #3 (indy poke)

Siccest shit i’ve seen in a long time.  Brock Carlson took the shots.

Nice work guys.

.

PS: Here’s a post about this post on the Duke of Delridge Blog

Edit:   Here’s the shot of N.B. loc Wagner hitting this a couple weeks ago (David Hastings Photo). Evidently on attempt #1 “Ol Dirty Wags” was dealt with by the tree branches over-hanging this drop. Dirty got his gear back together, hiked back up and nailed this stylish lean-indy over the falls, landed and then yelled ‘WHAT!’. Then he chopped off the head of a nearby backcountry skiier with his snowboard.

That is a lie. Tyler did not chop off anybodys head, but this shot is sic. And without googles. ??!! LOL.

This is one of the best live shows I have ever seen. Scary sounding circus music from a seven piece band all dressed up . The music is super good and the performance is great too. All for TEN bucks at NEUMOS. I don’t think this is thier full circus performance (acrobats , tightropers, fire blower etc.) just the band, which is the only thing i have seen. They are all dressed up like clowns, butchers and circus conductors. Also the 15 year old that sings Johnny Cash perfect is opening. definetely worth the ten bucks. check it.

THE LIGHTS AND THE MOONDOGGIESAt the Dubliner in Freemont. The Lights are really good. 3 piece stripped down rock. Probably seen them three times and would go again. Didn’t know the Dubliner had shows though? Kinda Fratty. The Lights will take care of them. The Moondoggies: actually pretty good as well. More of an alt country style, kind of like Neil Youngish with more going on. Worth seeing but what a stupid name for a band. Pretty much an instant turn off. Strange that it matters but it does. Maybe it is code for something really cool. Maybe they purposely chose a really stupid name? Just don’t get it. I understand the reason for candy coating a piece of shit but shit coating a piece of candy with a crappy name just doesn’t make sense. Oh well.

FREE SHOW !!!!

Rare these days with the rising cost of food, fuel and Canadian lift tickets. A good one too. Whalebones were good. I think they opened for Band of Horses awhile back… Don’t remember much but they were ok. The FERAL CHILDREN. Saw them @ the High Dive for free and they were super good. If anything it will be entertaining. A guy that looks like TOM GREEN singing and playing drums while standing up. Great show for the price. Check it Cap Hillers. Or, if you want to spend some money go see Cat Power or The Eels.

Last Tuesday and Wednesday (4/8 and 4/9) i got to ride Baker with no one else. K2 put on their hopefully now annual ‘Kamp K2.’ They did this a few years back–then it was called Festicle. The company rented out Mt Baker ski area and invited both the ski and snowboard teams, a ton of their employees, a bunch of shop people, misc industry people, some Baker locs and a few random dudes like myself.

The two day event was filled with a ton of activities that coupled the difficult and rare combination of coordination and beer drinking. Examples include Flip-Cup, Mechanical Bull rides, Capture the Beer, Mini Banked Slalom, Beer-Pong and Trike Bike Rally.

Actually, back up. I missed an important point here. PBR sponsored this event with 55 kegs of beer. 55 kegs of beer! Of PBR. (On a side note, 1 keg is the equivalent of about 14 cases of beer. 55 kegs equals a little over 9,000 cases of beer. I like to think that required it’s own semi-truck for that delivery). Needless to say, beer was flowing tough, usually mandatory during the activities.

The snow conditions were all time. Visibility was perfect. Hardly anyone was there. It was on. I had a few activities that i was supposed to take part in (a free massage) but opted to ride pow all day. Both days. The sun came out on Weds too. I rode the chair a few times with some people from the east coast who when they were able to see the Arm were trrrrrrrippin! I can only imagine what was going through their heads coming from an icy, flat east coast straight to the most balls-out, powdery place you can. And having it pretty much all to yourself with epic conditions….

Petersen Pow Slasher DJ MulletPassed Out!Powell.SchmiesPetersen 20' er.

Each day was sic. The siccness continued into the night with sic live music, sic costume parties and sic people. DJ Mullet, Vitamin D and Hells Belle’s all provided beats and/or metal for the parties. The partying was nuts. Get a bunch of snow/ski bros together with 55 kegs of PBR, a mini ramp, Rock Bank, beer bongs and 55 kegs of PBR and holy shit…shit goes down!

I finally rode a Gyrator for a few runs–those things are no joke. They tear ASS through pow. Centered stance, little to no leaning back….just like you’ve heard. I’ll probably invest in some sort of non Lib-Tech reverse camber board next year.

So stoked i was able to go. Good times, great conditions, awesome people. Thank you Kamp K2, you’re the best!

Check out the full Gallery from the event.

Not for everyone. Thats for sure. Go rent the dvd THE DEVIL AND DANIEL JOHNSTON, they even have it at block buster. A good documentary on a crazy wierdo if nothing else. It did well at some film festivals. check this

It will be interesting for sure. I kind of doubt that he can make it through a hole set but we’ll see. Here is probably more of what to expect.

Also if you like documentaries on weirdos : Look up ROKY ERIKSON title Your Gonna Miss Me Super good. I give this one a 6/6 and maybe an extra 6 for a special DIABLO RATING.

This guy rips. And he played Bumbershoot this year. Listen to the lyrics. Sometimes these rockers really are crazy.

1. THE GRAND ARCHIVES: If you like band of horses and carissa’s wierd you will probably also be into these guys. Matt Brooke is a huge part of both these bands (he is the guy singer in carrisa’s wierd and old guitar player/song writer for band of horses). For instance, if you thought the first band of horses album was way better than the second, might be the absence of this dude? I could definitely hear the absence of him live at the last horses show i saw. In short, kinda like band of horses but slower, and very panzy. Not for slayer fans. Track 4 almost sounds like richard marx, i hate to say. A good cd to read too or listen too when hung over. Kinda wish a friend would have bought it and i recorded it from them instead of paying for it. but worth having. 3/6

2. The BLACK KEYS: attack and release. The first two albums by these guys are amazing. Since then they have gotten progressively worse (still not bad though) and overproduced. Still like the albums but probably just because i liked the older ones so much. This one was worth an interesting try due to mr. DANGER MOUSE producing it? sounds weird? Might be cool with some good hip hop beats in there mixed with some old blues? Nope, just made it boring and clean. bummer. 2/6 still an amazing two piece and great live show. But dont’ buy this album, get an older one.

3. The HELIO SEQUENCE: keep your eyes ahead. Good. Haven’t heard these guys for a really long time (like ten years) and this album is way better than i remember them. Found it used at sonic boom. woo hoo, saved four bucks! I think they are only a two piece as well. Ripping drummer and a very creative disc both lyrically and musically. Definitely still a panzy cd though. but a good one. poppy as hell. i say get it. i would have payed full price for this one. 5/6

4. BECK ODELAY RE-ISSUE spendy one. 30 bones. You have to really want it. Got it used. Wouldn’t do a full price. Double disc. Odelay og and another disc of some remixes and covers and a couple hard to find beck songs. The best part is a version of an odelay hit in Spanish, straight mexi-style with full marriachi band. Don’t buy it. Unless you really like beck. And i do.

5. NADA SURF lucky. Well, their last two albums were really good. Mainly the album LET GO. Super good. This one i could have done with out. Just pretty much boring. Nothing new and not as catchy. Not a bad album but get LET GO instead. 3/6

TAD broken circuits and ringing ears DVD (for the visually stimulated)TAD: The heaviest of all seattle grunge. 300 pound, ear shattering, intelligent grunge. Go buy 8 way santa and inhaler, even infared riding hood. prob find them all in you local used cd bin. guarantee you’ll see one. Stoker if it is 8 way santa. If you find it, let me know. Lost mine years ago. I think it was a tape. Remember those? We used to listen to them in our cars. Never skipped once. Good dvd on the birth of grunge and how meth even can even affect really fat people that rocked really hard. That is for the kids. Even if your fat, meth is not good for you. Kind of a sad story of how they almost made it but had really bad luck, and a drug problem. check it out. 4/6

I caught Transmissionary Six last Saturday at the High Dive. I’ve been wanting to see these guys for a while. They’re local so they play pretty frequently. The band has an interesting sound. A little bit of an alt-country, spacey rock sound. Female singer with a unique voice and a slide guitar!

KEXP put on the show which was a benefit for the Seattle public libraries. Viva Voce and Caner Rising also played but i cut out early due to the previous nights bender.

I didn’t think the band sounded all that great relative to their recorded music, but it looked like they might have been having some technical difficulties on stage–not sure.

The music is really cool–mellow. Here’s a couple songs i found online.
