UPDATE: 01.14.1008 2:00pm
Just talked to a reliable source. Said that the reason there is no pipe right now at Snoqualmie is because the Water Utility Company for Snoqualmie Pass jacked up the price of water 10 times what they were paying last year. When you consider that it takes something like 200,000 gallons (?) of water to build the halfpipe and the fact that Snoqualmie Pass operates under a finite budget that explains why there’s been no pipe yet.
Ideally the halfpipe would be made with a mix of natural and man-made snow. The man made snow is way more dense than the natural stuff so it holds it’s shape longer. Remember the all natural snow pipes way back? With our wet NW snow and warm temps, those things fell apart quick. Pipes made from man-made snow hold their shape longer, last longer and are probably less maintenance in the long run.
The good news is they they started pushing snow today(01.14) and plan to have the pipe cut in the next two weeks. The guy who built the jumps and halfpipe for the Grenade Games last spring is tentatively planned to come out and build the pipe. While it lasted, the pipe at the Grenade Games was sic. The jumps were super sic too. All i know is Danny Kass was going richter in that thing. Check out pics from last years Grenade Games in the Gallery.
end.

So it’s January 13 and Washington has seen above average snowfall so far. This time last year we had less snow yet there was a pipe at Snoqualmie Pass.
Has anyone heard what’s up with the Snoqualmie or Stevens Ujump?

Don’t get me wrong jibbing around crusty Silver Fir and waiting a half hour in line with some good homies is all good, but a nice pipe would be insane. When they do cut the pipe, is it under lights for night sessions??? Man that would rule, dope pipe for night riding for us 9 to 5ers. Seems like a no brainer.

Baker had one aka the Lords Ditch, but it snowed too much and now they will have the bank Slalom go through it. Lame

i heard water prices got jacked up so they cancelled all snowmaking operations. which i think is bullshit because we all know damn good and well that both THE SUMMIT and COMCAST are making plenty of money. i dont know, that comparison made sense to me anyway…

ok….those guys probably made close to 2 billion dollars last sunday. I know because i witnessed the hour long lift lines. Never seen ‘any’ ski area that busy. Buck up and pay for the water you puzzies. B’s right though, i think all pipes should be like canyon in spring.

Just make a pipe! That rainy weather would have been perfect to start making one. Would have been frozen solid now. Night pipe was fun last year…

i don’t change the water in my pipe much. i guess that is why my water is black and the snow pipe is white.

I got a few hot tips for anyone wanting the dude tube… first of all, Nate flew in on wednesday to help with the pipe. maybe you’ve noticed, but bonanza face has been almost completely striped naked like luke h’s date on prom and all the snow has been pushed into the pipe. There has been cats working in it day and night, which has been the reason that the right side boxes and jump have been closed (sorry kelson). There should be enough snow to build it even without making snow. This is good because even though all of us that work at the summit are rich as shit and really didn’t want to sell our shares of comcast stock to pay the water bill (kelson!). Anyway, if you see Nate in the bar, buy him a drink. He’s the guy with an eastcoast accent and looks out of place.
